چکیده

Here we present a ground-breaking new postulate for game theory. The first part of this postulate contains the axiomatic observation that all games are created by a designer, whether they are: e.g., (dynamic/static) or (stationary/non-stationary) or (sequential/one-shot) non-cooperative games, and importantly, whether or not they are intended to represent a non-cooperative Stackelberg game, they can be mapped to a Stackelberg game. I.e., the game designer is the leader who is totally rational and honest, and the followers are mapped to the players of the designed game. If now the game designer, or “the leader” in the Stackelberg context, adopts a pure strategy, we postulate the following second part following from axiomatic observation of ultimate game leadership, where empirical insight leads to the second part of this postulate. Importantly, implementing a non-cooperative Stackelberg game, with a very honest and rational leader results in social optimality for all players (followers), assuming pure strategy across all followers and leader, and that the leader is totally rational, honest, and is able to achieve a minimum amount of competency in leading this game, with any finite number of iterations of leading this finite game. John Nash stated the following theoremfor non-cooperative games that became widely known as the Nash equilibrium:, Theorem 1 (Nash Equilibrium) Every game with a finite number of players and action profiles has at least one Nash equilibrium [Nash, 1951]. A mixed strategy always has an equilibrium. [Nash, 1951]. We have discovered a postulate as a counter-point to the Nash-Equilibrium Theorem 1 above. Our postulate is: ∗NICTA is funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Communications and the Australian Research Council through the ICT Centre of Excellence Program. Mixed implies non-deterministic i.e., a best response to all others’ best responses, which is not guaranteed for a completely deterministic, or pure, strategy.

A mathematical model of the effect of subsidy transfer in cooperative advertising using differential game theory

This work deals with subsidy transfer from a manufacturer to a retailer through the distributor in cooperative advertising. While the retailer engages in local advertising, the manufacturer indirectly participates in retail advertising using advertising subsidy which is given to the distributor, who in turn transfers it to the retailer. The manufacturer is the Stackelberg game leader; the distr...

A Model for Cooperative Advertising and Pricing Decisions in Manufacturer-Retailer Supply Chain with Discount: A Game Theory Approach

Coordinating the supply chain is among the most important subjects that is extensively addressed in the related literature. If a supply chain is to be coordinated, it is equivalent to say that we must solve a problem related to competition and cooperation. The game theory is obviously one of the most effective methods to solve such problems, in which the players of the supply chain are assumed ...

Stochastic cooperative advertising in a manufacturer–retailer decentralized supply channel

This work considers cooperative advertising in a manufacturer–retailer supply chain. While the manufacturer is the Stackelberg leader, the retailer is the follower. Using Sethi model it models the dynamic effect of the manufacturer and retailer’s advertising efforts on sale. It uses optimal control technique and stochastic differential game theory to obtain the players’ advertising strategies a...

The competitive advantages analysis of pharmaceutical industry strategic behaviors by game theory

Game theory is the study of mathematical models and cooperation between intelligent rational decision-makers. This paper provides a flexible model to calculate pay-off matrix based on several importance factors. This model is adapted by cooperative game and developed for some competitive advantages sections in pharmaceutical industry. An optimum solution is derived by considering Nash equilibri...

Solving a Two-Period Cooperative Advertising Problem Using Dynamic Programming

Cooperative advertising is a cost-sharing mechanism in which a part of retailers' advertising investments are financed by the manufacturers. In recent years, investment among advertising options has become a difficult marketing issue. In this paper, the cooperative advertising problem with advertising options is investigated in a two-period horizon in which the market share in the second period...
